Get Out On

Newark, Delaware – May 18, 2008 – A small group of University of Delaware students, surprised by the lack of awareness surrounding the two recent international disasters in Burma (Myanmar) and China, have prepared a Get Out On Main Street Campaign for this Tuesday.

Street Day, scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, 2008, was the result of deciding to
raise awareness and funds for the two disasters, and after looking at several
alternative events, the group decided to contact local businesses on
The result is an event where students and people can go to any of the 18+ participating businesses, shop and state they are there for this fundraiser, and have 5-15% of their purchase amount go to Red Cross’s aid efforts in Burma and China.
The event planned under less than a week’s short notice, is still being finalized, but has already received some attention from the state paper, the Delaware News Journal (April 17, 2008 B1) and may also have an article in the upcoming issue of the college newspaper, The Review.
